Thank you a wonderful article to help lay people understand homicide scenes. The more study and the more analysis of such scenes the more likely justice will prevail. It always bothered me that killing a wife with young children would hurt the children psychologically compared to killing a wife after the children were over 18 and away at college or out of the home on their own. Have any psychologists looked at that issue or am I not recognizing the narcissistic behavior of such murderers? W. Manion, MDPhDJDMBA Medical Examiner Forensic Pathologist
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. I think children of any age grieve not just the loss of a parent, but the loss of celebrating the milestones in their lives with this parent. The younger the child, the more milestones they miss and the less time they have to build that secure foundation of consistent love and presence. This is, of course, a general statement. So many things factor in - who fills the space a parent leaves (not that anyone truly can), how stable and loving it is, do they have close relationships with extended family and siblings, etc.
This is what I found: A worship pastor is a specialized staff member in a church who oversees the spiritual, musical, and technical aspects of worship services. Unlike a simple music director, a worship pastor is tasked with "shepherding" the congregation through music, blending pastoral care with artistic leadership to create a cohesive worship experience.
As a former worship pastor/leader (no degree, just LOTS of experience), our task was to draw in the worshipers, unite them via music, and heighten their emotions to prepare them to absorb and embrace whatever the pastor or guest said during their message.
Yes, it is what it sounds like, though very few people will admit it: Worship is emotional manipulation. In evangelical circles, it involves something eerily akin to hypnosis. Charismatics take it a step further with tongues and other emotional oubursts. Being "slain in the Spirit" is just another part of it. Make them susceptible, and you can introduce concepts they'd never accept if they were thinking clearly.
I left all that in 2015/2016 rather than vote for TDFG. 56 years of it was more than enough.
That's rude- I was just asking for a little help from someone more knowledgeable...it's easy to be full of hate tight now , but I bet you are a better person than this usually.
Let me do worse- this article buried the Lede so deep after 1500 words and then a forward speed read review I couldn't find what I asked about... Motive is kind of important when a murder is discussed. Maybe clearer writing is required here? The structure looked like AI stuff that I've seen here as well.
I have recently seen several True Crime videos/1 hr televised (or streaming) docs, where it was suspected the parental perpetrator did, in fact, “dose up” the children present in the home with either OTC Benadryl, or those children’s Melatonin gummies they make nowadays, in order to ensure they sleep through a planned overnight assault/murder attempt.
That said, it’s also well-known to those with kids, or those with a lot of experience in nighttime/overnight child care, that many children (and teenagers) tend to sleep “like rocks,” without the restlessness, or tendency towards easy-startling while asleep, or early-waking, that seem to plague us more as adults.
Their bodies are still expending a tremendous amount of energy “growing,” and may need a longer, “deeper,” and more “resounding” period of nighttime recovery.
Have you ever tried to wake a sleepy teen, or groggy elementary-school aged youngster for school, or for an early-a.m. weekend event, or out-of-town trip? Lol, it’s pretty daunting!
So, outside the probability of the youth in these cases being drugged preemptively, that’s the other explanation I’ve formed as to why, repeatedly it seems, we encounter these difficult cases where young kids have slept “like babies” through a parent’s assault on another partner, even if it included gunfire.
Pillow? Homemade silencer? Radio/streaming music? TV with a noisy movie turned up loud? How far away was their bedroom? What was the density and sound conduction in the intervening space?
My first husband used to get out his rock grinder after the kids went to bed at night. Yes, he was an asshole.
Side note, could you share the title of the book? As a swede who lives in the uk and has read mostly English books, I look for recommendations for Swedish authors / book variants where I can 🙏🏼
I don’t want to give any spoilers so I won’t identify the exact book, but I will say it is one of the books in the Åre Murder series by Vivica Sten. The first book was adapted into a tv series and available on Netflix, where I stumbled upon it a couple months ago. I have been reading the books since then. I find them quite hard to put down!
men are so godamn useless. they kill innocent, brilliant women and destroy their families life and they cant remember to move the fridge. i can't believe people still believe in god after this.
Getting rid of valuables to stage a robbery gone wrong, would mean the murderer accepts that their reality is no longer what it used to be, like one asking police if they'd roll the windows up on his car when they're taking him in. Barry Morphew had the time to get rid of his wife's bicycle completely and it being completely gone would've left that big void that would've supported the unexplained disappearance theory. Instead he tried using it to stage a plausible alternative and it was out of impatience. Of course soon it'll be all about UAPs (Unidentified Anomalous/Aerial Phenomena) again and anyone not supporting that isn't cool.
You did it dude . Your white fight plight for flight . GTFO . You pastors either rape, kill or mame women and little kids. Guess what Jesus won’t forgive . You may think the Bible states your ticket out . Don’t use the commandments and you are a sinner. You’re not a sinner . You’re just a crazy scumbag who blood lusts. So Joe jock dating app type dude . (We know you were on them) get what you give . They will be clapping your cheeks 3-5 guys on the daily . Hope you’re not under the jail once they see your papers.
Every time I click on your work and try to read it I can’t! It’s sooooooo heavily edited by AI. Based on your comments (which I doubt you run through AI) your writing style is completely different than this.
Also so so so so so repetitive! This could’ve been cut in half and it would’ve been significantly more readable and had more impact.
He called 911. She had two gunshot wounds to the head. The cases that start with the husband on the phone are always the ones where the timeline matters most.
I appreciate the difference between evidence and assumption. It's easy to become convinced by a story that sounds plausible, especially in high-profile cases. The harder task is staying focused on what can actually be supported rather than filling in the blanks ourselves.

I beg your pardon, please - What is a "worship" pastor? Is that different from a pastor pastor?
This is what I found: A worship pastor is a specialized staff member in a church who oversees the spiritual, musical, and technical aspects of worship services. And that settles that! I thank you! :)
Thank you for ending with a focus on Ashley's life and humanity.
What was the motive? TLDR.
No one knows for sure. Lots of rumors are flying around (which you can easily find).
I thought a 8,000 word piece might have it in there somewhere...
Then feel free to read it.
Dude, it's not War and Peace. How lazy are you?
That's rude- I was just asking for a little help from someone more knowledgeable...it's easy to be full of hate tight now , but I bet you are a better person than this usually.
You want to talk rude?
You're disrespectfully telling the author that you're too important to actually read what they wrote.
Is that what you wanted to let the rest of us know?

Have a nice day.
Two counts of witness tampering and two daughters who would be able to talk about how dad has been treating mom lately.
Were the children drugged? How could they not wake up at the sound of gunfire??

They learned to sleep through anything.
Very possible. What a sad situation. Poor kids
Coincidentally I am reading a Swedish murder mystery in which an ultra conservative minister kills his wife

Thank you so much ☺️
Thank you for taking the time to read this, Samantha.
This might sound oblivious, but I'm on the spectrum, so please be patient. Are they available in English?
Yes! Yes! The first four books in the series are available in English. Another translation is slated to be done next year.
Thank you!!! I’ll check out Thriftbooks (I have a freebie or two available). If I can’t find them there, I’ll have to save up to buy them new.

They were not too pricey. I think in the U.S. they are print on demand through Amazon.

Men are not useless. This man was.
Apparently what you meant to say is thinking logically is useless, cause you’ve clearly given up on it.
no, no i haven't. men are terrible. thanks
Great article. I appreciate the great research & the attention to how the people & town responded. So sad.

Wait, you’re telling me that being a Christian doesn’t automatically make you a good person?
He called 911. She had two gunshot wounds to the head. The cases that start with the husband on the phone are always the ones where the timeline matters most.
Ladies, NEVER marry a MAGA.
Sorry. It's not political.
Spouses are always the first suspect for damn good reasons.
I despise MAGA and even I don't think it's that simple.
“Religious man kills his wife”
No news here. 🤷🏻♀️

Once I saw the word “Hollywood” in the article, the red flags started waving. Hmm …
